The State of Hip Hop: How Come Real Hip Hop is not Being Played on the Radio?
This Friday August 30, 2013 at 1pm-1:30pm, come and join the conversation about the State of Hip Hop: How Come Real Hip Hop is not Being Played on the Radio? on http://www.blogtalkradio.com/meika10. My guest are the independent artists E.Pillz of KOBK Records and Issa Minkah. Please call in at (646) 716-7273 or email theycallmemscarter18@yahoo.com or comment on this post to view your opinion.
So, let's start the conversation. Hip Hop is so much different than when it started in 1979. It is a culture that pulls every race of people together. When Hip Hop first started, the artists were rapping about having fun and every day life. Then as the culture grew, artists started rapping about what was really going on in their hood. The artists were poets of the generation. The artists started having sophisticated lyrical battles. These battles defined the artists lyrical growth and the cultures growth. In 1999, The Hard Knock Life Tour, featuring Jay-z, DMX, Redman, Method Man & etc artists, was the highest grossed tour at the time. The biggest Hip Hop tour that broke all the fears of not having any violence at any of the tour dates. Rap songs and artists had substance with deep meaning.
Now a day, Rap songs have no substance to it. Everything is put out there. There is no lyrical content. Everyone raps about glorifying drug dealers and taking drugs to get through life. It seems as though anyone can become a rapper. Artists seem to rap just to get 15 mins of fame instead of trying to have a long lasting career. Why do we as a culture accept these songs? Why don't we as a culture demand the artists bring lyrical substance to the table?
Please let me know what you are thinking. I would love to hear from you. See you on the air waves!
